We’ve been running a series of “micro-posts” across Facebook and Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram (if you’re not already following, we’d LOVE to connect with you there!), featuring our founder Nicky’s #PartyStyleWithHairLoss tips to help you get your glam on this Christmas!
Here they all are, in one place, for you to refer to and (hopefully!) help you sparkle over the coming weeks if you are experiencing hair loss due to chemotherapy or alopecia, or any other reason.
Tips for party style with hair loss
• First and foremost, do not let your lack of locks stop you from stepping out this festive season. If you’re feeling well and energised you can look supremely elegant in cocktail evening hats. If you’re unsure exactly what a cocktail hat looks like – here are some favourites from our current Christmas collection! Our NEW Margot cocktail turban (fiirst picture) …
And our classic Ava cocktail turban (middle), with optional brooch, for a touch of extra ‘bling!’ (supplied with turban!) Essentially, your cocktail turban should be all about easy ‘pull on and go’ wear – soft, cool to wear and look sufficiently dressy to fit in well with your eveningwear.
• Even if the hat is black it won’t look right, if it is in the style of a woolly bobble hat! You could wear a soft ‘everyday’ type beanie or turban, but dress it up with a silk scarf or a dressy headband (see our NEW Nancy, satin-look wide headband, far right, for real party style – it’s perfect!).
• So often, eveningwear clothes have a sheen or a sparkle to them, so you need the same level of impact with evening headwear. If you have a favourite hat you can always change the look with brooches and flower pins! Pictured above is our classic, crochet black flower pin
• Or go colourful, with our Art Deco-style brooch (left), which has so many jewel colours, it would look great with just about anything and stunning against black!
• Lots of women tell us they can’t take the heat wearing their wig for the entire evening. If you’re set on trying to wear your wig all evening, take a ‘soft something’ or a beautiful silk scarf to change into.
• Don’t be too hard on yourself trying to ‘look like you always have’ – there are definite fashion looks out there that don’t immediately advertise treatment or significant hair loss. Think back to the 1920s and 1930s when women accessorised their outfits with stunning hats and jewellery and looked like Garbo! Pictured above our NEW, gorgeous, super-glam but modern Marcelle turban It’s pure Hollywood glam! Gorgeous in festive red…
• Scarves – you either love them or hate them! If you love scarf wrapping there are some gorgeous silk scarves around this season that will make any outfit look exotic and adorned! (above our gorgeous Chrome Leaf long-tying turban scarf!). Think small-ish prints and patterns that distract the eye and beautifully disguise defined head shape. Don’t be mean with your scarves – the more material you have the easier they are to tie and the volume is so much more flattering to wear. (Handy scarf dimensions – square format – 1m square. Long scarf 180 – 200cms long x 50cms wide (minimum) up to 80 cms is useful!). This way, you can tie securely and then pull the scarf out slightly all the way round so that you can avoid that ‘flat head’ back view (pictured left, our beautiful Zanzibar head scarf – another seasonal stunner!).
We LOVE the golds in this print, which looks just as gorgeous from the dramatic back view as it does from the front!
• Don’t forget a little more make-up is often required with cocktail hats. They are often darker – black, or deep jewel colours – so your make-up will need a little more definition and colour. Lippy and a good swish of blusher to help you look and feel well against the darker fabrics around your face!
