Bespoke Bridal Hat

Looking for a bridal hat to completely cover your head?  Welcome to Suburban Turban’s bespoke bridal wear design commission page. Please email us at [email protected] for further details.

Often we are working long distance, where fittings simply aren’t possible, so we base our designs on stretch fabrics so that fit isn’t an issue. We are happy to discuss fabrics but this is the thinking behind the styles seen here. I hope you’ll be inspired by our elegant headwear, designed to ‘wow!’ Our range of bridal headpieces provide complete coverage and make a chic and stylish statement on one of the most important days of your life.

Each headpiece is a ‘one off” made by myself, with as much detail and loving care as you put into sourcing your dress. (I’ve been making bridal millinery for over 17 years.) With veil detail, lux’ fabrics and subtle detailing, here are  three styles to inspire you and  we can work together to design your ultimate elegant and timeless bridal hat.

Bride with hat - the first bride

My headwear, which includes turbans, hats, scarves and headbands are all designed to be comfortable and stylish.

I have many years of experience working in all sorts of jerseys and fabrics for made to order pieces and can guide/advise you through the process from start to finish.

Whether it’s a scarf to add volume and height to an everyday outfit, a bridal hat to compliment your dream gown or an exquisite headpiece to cover and work with your hair regrowth stage, I’ll work with you to create something truly as unique as you, for your special occasion.

Our signature headwear designs are comfortable, perfectly fitted elegant pieces – once in place ‘worry free wear’, leaving you to shine.

More recently we have worked with 2 brides who were getting married following cancer treatment, but their hair was still very much in the early stages of growing back. Our bride didn’t want to cover her head completely but she felt her head needed ‘dressing’ to match her beautiful fishtail wedding gown and this in turn would balance her whole silhouette as she walked in.

We designed a wide headband in silk jersey covered with silk tulle veiling, held in place with small pearls. (There was even a small face veil that could be tucked up into the headband once the ceremony was over.) This added some soft volume around her face, distracting the eye from the short ‘Audrey Hepburn’ crop emerging underneath. For such a simple item it had a real ‘Wow!’ factor and crowned her day beautifully.

Our next bride, in her own words, a ‘mature’ bride but with great flare and style!! had found her dress and we worked with her and her dressmaker to ensure we got the colour correct and matched the 1950’s style of the dress.

It’s worth knowing there are many shades of cream/ivory, hence the reason why we quote international thread colour ranges, so that you can assess the colour (hopefully wherever you are) by looking at a cotton reel.

This has been essential when designing long-distance. We have created headwear for special occasions all over the world from Costa Rica, New Zealand, Europe and of course the UK. This bridal headpiece completely covered the head – a cream silk jersey turban, so it was super comfortable to wear all day – completely covered in veiling and picking up on the detailing of her dress.

There are a few ‘tips and tricks’ we use in our selection of fabrics and the draping we incorporate into the styles that make the final design look ‘intentional’. What do we mean by ‘intentional’?

Much like a ‘mother of the bride’s’ wedding hat which has been designed and dyed to match her outfit, the brief is no different except we are working in cream.

We follow the style of the gown, and are sensitive to the sense of occasion, so that the headwear blends beautifully on the day and our brides feel super confident and comfortable.

Hat Bride Styles

These styles caused quite a stir when we were photographing them for our shoot at the Grace bridal shop. A couple of brides visited whilst we were doing the shoot and loved the styling – (they had no idea this was a shoot for hair loss).

One tip I would offer – if you are considering a full head covering select a slightly less ornate dress. It doesn’t have to be completely plain, by any means, but a ‘hat’ does make a difference and your ‘look’ changes – instantly you are more dressy and dramatic. (Always remember to try everything on together and to look in a full length mirror!)

Our styles remember the 1920/30’s and the draped column dress designs we selected seemed to fit perfectly – all very ‘Great Gatesby’

Bridal Hat - Style 1

Silk tulle/satin jersey hat. Silk tulle and satin are wrapped around a cream jersey base that stretches to hug the head. The drape detailing goes all the way round the hat, ensuring 360° elegance from every angle.

Bridal Hat - Style 2

Cream jersey turban with pearl knot detail, birdcage veil. The soft jersey material is pleated and draped all the way round the head.

The turban stretches to hug the head, while the jersey pleating and the birdcage detailing disguises defined head shapes while adding soft volume to the bride’s profile.

Bridal Hat - Styles 3 and 4

‘Selina’ in palest cream. A simple draped cream jersey turban in lightweight viscose jersey with self-trim ‘water lily’.

Style 4 – is a classic cream turban in pale ivory stretch cotton sateen.  Beautifully draped and stitched in place for volume around the head and easy to ‘pull on’, elasticated at the nape of the neck.

All styles are made to measure and sized to your head size. Please allow a 4 week lead time.

It’s worth noting there are many shades of cream, which is why we quote international thread colour ranges so that you can assess the colour by looking at a cotton reel. This has been essential when designing long-distance. We have created headwear for weddings and special occasions all over the world, including Costa Rica, New Zealand, Europe and of course the UK

We would like to wish all our brides a gloriously confident day and many congratulations!
